Metropol Parasol, the ‘Mushrooms’

Metropol Parasol

Las Setas de la Encarnación de Sevilla.

The so-called ‘Mushrooms’ (Metropol Parasol) comprise a meeting place, leisure and culture facility in the centre of Seville which includes a market, the above-mentioned archaeological museum (Antiquarium) and a walkway/viewpoint with incredible views of the city skyline.

Located on the lower floor of the Metropol Parasol, Antiquarium is a museum with archaeological remains dating from the Roman Empire in 1 A.D. through to the Moors of the 12th century. It includes ancient dwellings, sewerage systems, a fish salting factory (1st Century) and mosaics from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Century. All up, there are 4,500 square metres of remains of Roman, Visigothic and Moorish Seville, and all hidden below one of the most innovative constructions in Seville.

With this  attraction, the largest historic city centre in Europe has a natural connection between the monuments of the centre and the northern zone of the walled city in the form of cultural facilities with modern lines, linking the pedestrian zone which runs from Plaza de España to the Basilica of La Macarena and the Cinco Llagas Hospital.
