Real Alcázar de Sevilla, una de las sedes históricas del Parlamento de Andalucía

The Andalusian Parliament has been based in Seville since the very first steps of the autonomous process, which culminated in the historic referendum of 28 February 1980. The Andalusian capital was closely linked with this endeavour and had solid arguments in its favour, such as the establishment of the pre-autonomous institutions, its accesibility and the services available in the city.

The First Session of the Andalusian Chamber was held in the Real Alcazar on 21 June 1982, and plenary sessions were later held in the Palace of the Territorial Audience and in the former Church of San Hermenegildo, which has also been used as a college, a military barracks and an exhibition space. On 28 February 1992 the Parliament was transferred to its current location, the Cinco Llagas or Sangre Hospital.

The construction of the Cinco Llagas Hospital began on 12 March 1546 to house the charitable foundation created in 1500 by Doña Catalina de Ribera, mother of the promoter of the works, Don Fadrique Enriquez de Ribera. It functioned as a hospital until February 1972, when it was closed due to its advanced state of deterioration, in contrast to the exceptional hygienic conditions it enjoyed when it first began functioning 400 years earlier.

On the occasion of Andalusia Day on 20 February the Cinco Llagas Hospital opens its doors to visitors, who can contemplate both the artistic treasures of this major Renaissance construction and the refitting which has taken place to enable it to house the Andalusian Parliament.
