Shopping in original buildings in Sevilla

Edificio La Adriatica Sevilla

Edificio de La Adriática en la Avenida de la Constitución de Sevilla.

If you stroll around the main shopping zones of Sevilla you will notice the surprising number of shops that occupy historic buildings in the city centre, with a predominance of the regionalist style. These buildings occupied by some of the more long-standing businesses combine artistic ceramic and brickwork, cavings, balaustrades, iron balconies and delicate decorative work by famous painters, sculptors and ceramic workers of Seville, along with designs by the leading architects of the early 20th century: Anibal Gonzalez, Juan Talavera and Jose Espiau, to name a few.

Regionalism prevails in buildings as unique as the Ciudad de Londres (Cuna St) or its twin at Avenida de la Constitucion (see picture above), but also in the Maquedano hat shop or Abrines jewelry.

Pure history of the city that is still present. Like in hotels, where you can find stones with a history. The Hotel Inglaterra, for example, is the veteran of the hospitality of the city. To a greater or lesser extent, all those located in the historic city centre exploit constructions, structures or lots of other times.

The Hotel Doña María was built in a former palace attributed to Samuel Levy (confidant of King Pedro I ‘The Cruel’ or ‘The Avenger’, depending on the chronicles). It is said that once existed underground passages from the hotel to the Real Alcázar and from there, the river Guadalquivir.

Hotel Becquer occupies the mansion of the Marquis de las Torres of Pressa, which are preserved and exploit different testimonies. Among them, the Renaissance Grills included in the reception desk.

And of course, there is the Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia, result of the union of 27 independent houses in the historic Jewish quarter. The Palacio de los Zúñiga, el de los Padilla, la Casa Grande del Callejón, the Corral de las Flores and other stately homes are communicated through backyards and alleys that make a real inner city.

Enjoy a stroll through the center of Sevilla and see how its historic buildings remain active.
